Hello, my name is L'il Claire. Some people say i'm a cheeky scamp who is always up to mischief, but really I just want to have adventures all the time. You see, although I'm only small, I'm really very brave!
One day i was watching telly and I saw a programme about a gnome called Murphy who went round the world having lots of adventures. He went to Thailand, Africa, Australia and loads of other places too! If you don't where these countries are, ask your Mum and Dad to show you because they're ace! After hearing about Murphy, I thought " Wow, thats what I'll do! I'll go to a faraway country and have more adventures than any other bear i know! " There was just one problem. How does a little bear get to a faraway country?
So, I went to see my cousin Claire the Bear who is always really helpful whatever the problem. She lives at Claire House Children's Hospice on the Wirral. I love it there, the children and nurses are super nice and super cool. She told me about two boys called Tom and Andre who were doing a big bike ride to raise money for the hospice. They would start in Canada, cycle all the way through America until they got to Mexico. If you're not sure where these countries are - you know what to do! " They are cycling all the way down the coast, so will see lots of beaches, lots of exciting animals and make lots of new friends" said Claire, " They will see the biggest trees in the world and maybe meet some American bears, who are even bigger than me!". After hearing about Tom and Andre, I thought wow, that's what I'll do! I'll ask if I can go with them, to a faraway country, and have more adventures than any other bear I know!
Andre was in France, getting a suntan, so very nicely, big cousin Claire asked Tom if it was OK. Tom said it sounded like fun. Yay! Big cousin Claire was very excited for me and a little bit relieved. " Like lots of boys, Tom and Andre are really nice, but can be a bit silly" explained Claire, " They're always clowning around and are a bit lazy when comes to getting up in the morning! " Do you know any boys like this? " We were a bit worried that they may get lost and end up in Greenland, and neither of them speak Penguin!" sighed Claire, " but now you're on board, I'm sure you'll keep those silly cyclists in line " she said with a wink.
For the next two months, I helped Tom train for the ride, getting him out of bed and making sure he didn't get lost. You can see some photos of us training below. We had lots of fun and Tom was so impressed that he asked me to write this diary of our adventures. He said, " Claire, you are clearly braver and wiser than me and Andre put together. I think you will definately have the most exciting adventures and tell the best stories. " During the ride I will be sitting in Tom's handlebar bag, reading the map, writing my diary and taking photos for you guys back in England.
I'm super excited about this trip, in fact I think it might be my best adventure ever! Being a bear I'm very much looking forward to camping in the woods, but also I can't wait to see all the new wildlife, beaches and towns. I'm sure I'll meet lots of new cool friends and I'll take photo's of them waving hello to all you children in Claire House. We're all packed and ready to go and now have a big plane ride from London to Vancouver to look forward to. The next time I have chance to write to you, I'll be in Canada or maybe even America, so till then, take care and farewell my friends!
